Divers To Make Big Splash When Red Bull Cliff Diving Series Returns To Boston

Two dozen brave humans who stand on an insanely high platform and willingly jump off into the water below will make quite the splash when they wow diving fans in Boston next month.

Twenty-four divers will be leaping off the roof of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Seaport when the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series returns to the city on Saturday, June 3.

The international competition, which started in 2009 and is entering its 14th season, is hoping to recreate its unprecedented Boston performances for the second year in a row.

"Last year, Boston served up a crazy season opener when Aidan Heslop and Molly Carlson set the tone for one of the most exciting seasons in cliff diving history," the series website reads. "Let’s see if there's another shake-up in store for the sports-crazed city."

The series features competitive divers who jump from a platform of up to 27 meters (roughly 88 feet) in the air off "iconic buildings, gorges, cliff faces and even historic bridges."

Last year's competition drew over 25,000 spectators, Boston Magazine reports. While the event is free to attend, space is limited.

After the Boston opener, the series will make stops in the following cities:

  • Paris, France on June 18
  • Polignano a Mare, Italy on July 2
  • Takachiho, Japan on August 3
  • Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 9
  • Auckland, New Zealand on November 19
